Landlord Tenant Ontario is an independent educational information hub. Our goal is to explain Ontario landlord-tenant law, Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) notices, forms and processes in plain, accurate, and practical language for both tenants and landlords. We are not a law firm and do not represent clients.
Guides are researched against the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006, publicly available LTB procedures and forms, and other official Ontario government resources. We aim to describe general rules and typical processes rather than predict the outcome of any specific case.
We write for readers who may be dealing with a stressful housing situation for the first time. That means avoiding unnecessary legal jargon, defining terms when they're first used, and organizing guides around real situations (a notice, a hearing, a repair issue) rather than abstract legal categories.
Ontario landlord-tenant law involves many fact-specific exceptions. Our guides generally use language such as "in most cases" or "the LTB may" rather than stating guaranteed outcomes, because individual circumstances can change how a rule applies.
Every guide displays a Published date and a Last reviewed/updated date. When a guide is materially revised, we update the "Last reviewed/updated" date so readers can judge its currency.
